schauinsland-reisen is a medium-sized, independent tour operator that is currently ranked seventh among the German package tour operators. In Europe, it is one of the top 20 companies in the tourism sector. In the tourism business year 2015/2016, over 1.37 million people booked a holiday with this Duisburg-based company, generating annual turnover of 1.1 billion euros. Hardly any other tour operator in Germany has been able to show such continuous growth in recent years, with growth rates generally in the two-figure bracket. The primary holiday destinations for schauinsland-reisen are the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia, Portugal, Greece, Bulgaria, the Caribbean and other faraway destinations in Asia and the Orient. Gerald Kassner, sole managing director, has headed the company since 1997 in what is already its third generation. Founded in 1918, schauinsland-reisen was initially run as a transport company and later a bus company. Around 50 years ago, schauinsland-reisen entered the air tourism business, making it one of the most experienced tour operators in the area of air travel. The company headquarters have been located in Duisburg since the company was founded, and since 2006 in the modern inner harbour, where employees moved to an expanded new build in summer 2011. The tour operator feels a particularly strong connection to Duisburg. That is why it has been a sponsor of the football club MSV Duisburg for many years and in summer 2010 also gave its name to the club’s stadium, the schauinsland-reisen-Arena.
schauinsland-reisen focuses on maximum flexibility and individuality in its range of offers and provides the customer with the greatest possible selection of possible combinations. The company is considered the pioneer of ‘dynamic packaging’ in the sector. In terms of sales, schauinsland-reisen is fully committed to successful cooperation, with around 11,600 travel agency partners in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Well-known hotel chains such as Iberostar, Lopesan Hotels, Steigenberger Resorts, Melia and Barcelo Group are among the hotel partners who have worked together with schauinsland-reisen for many years, as have famous airlines including Air Berlin, Condor, Lufthansa, Germania, NIKI and TUIfly. schauinsland-reisen offers departures from all German commercial airports and maintains a hotel information database of over 4,000 hotels in European holiday destinations and faraway places.
